Our Volunteers

Picture
So many wonderful generous people have volunteered their time and resources to help build our relationship with the people of Soibada.   Some have made numerous visits, some have visited once, some have made an amazing difference through their efforts in Australia.  Each and everyone has contributed something to our relationship and to the people of Soibada.   Arriving in the village it is impossible not to see the delight, joy and genuine warmth in the friendship between the two groups.  Our volunteers have not only provided material support for the numerous projects that are underway in Soibada, they have also helped to build a bridge between two very different worlds.  In doing so they have inspired a growing sense of motivation and hope for the future amongst the people of Soibada.

In most cases the experience has also enriched the lives of the volunteers.  It is difficult not to be touched by the warmth of the Timorese people.   Most volunteers return with stories  of their experiences.

In this section of the website, we'd like to share some of those stories from this inspiring journey.

This is an invitation to any of you who have been involved with Pittwater Friends of Soibada, both Timorese and Australians to share your experiences.    If you'd like to tell us a little about your experiences in Soibada, please contact Cathie Davies or Tamara Sloper-Harding through the link above.

A big thank you to Ian Laidlaw who  started this section for us by sharing some of his experiences.
You can see Ian's story here.
