Training Centre/Guest House
|
The new Training Centre and Guest House is the first building project undertaken by Pittwater Friends of Soibada. We have been very excited to see it taking shape over the past 12 months.
The construction of the building has been undertaken by the local community. The people of Soibada have access to resources and tradesmen. It is a much better use of resources for them to employ local tradesmen and use local products. This way we assist in stimulating the local economy by providing jobs and purchasing local materials. It also gives people a sense of ownership of the facilities that we fund. Requested by the local community, the building costs so far have been funded both through our own fundraising and through our partnership with Upper Northern Beaches Rotary Club and donations from RSL LifeCare, the war veterans at Narrabeen. Quotes from local builders have been around $30,000 – $40,000. To complete the building we will be using funds raised through our Buy a Brick campaign. |
New Senior High School Buildings
Once the Training Centre and Guest House has been completed the main focus of our fund raising efforts will be to enable the construction of a Senior High School building in Soibada. We will be looking for partners to help with this next venture. One that has been directly assessed by the people of the village as being their greatest need. To find out more about these needs visit our High School Project page and/or the Youth for Soibada page. If you would like to be involved in this exciting project please contact Tamara Sloper-Harding New Building for the school at Tasi Fatin

Toilet Block for Soibada School
Sanitation and hygiene remains an issue of concern throughout the village. Brookvale Rotary have been involved with a project to repair old facilities and install new ones. The school toilet block was the first site that we looked at and Brookvale Rotary sent delegates to Soibada to assess the needs. The project will evolve to include other areas within the village.

Preschool Building
In Timor Leste only an estimated 5% of children access basic preschool education. In Soibada there is no such facility at all. Please visit our Preschool page to learn more about why this is such a vital project for Soibada. We continue to look for the right partner to work with us on this important program. It is essential that our partners understand the need to remain true to the terms of our friendship agreement, that we listen carefully to requests of the people and assist them to achieve sustainable development in accordance with the needs they, themselves identify. As such, it is extremely important that the community of Soibada, once provided with suitable training and resources, have control over the running of the centre. If you would like to know more about joining us on the Preschool project please contact Tamara Sloper-Harding through the link below. |
